2015 Akron Rotary Ambassador of Service
BARRY C. DUNAWAY
Barry Dunaway is Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of The J. M. Smucker Company, with primary responsibilities for Corporate Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions, Human Resources, Legal, and Information Services.
Barry joined The J. M. Smucker Company in 1987, and has held a number of positions during his tenure, including a nine year assignment in the United Kingdom. He graduated from The University of Akron in 1984 with a B.S. degree in Business Management.
Barry has served on numerous boards throughout the greater Akron community including the advisory council of WKSU, the advisory board of the University of Akron Leadership Institute, and also the board of trustees of the Akron Rotary Camp.
Barry has lived in the Portage Lakes most of his life and was introduced to Rotary Camp by Joe Matava of Peninsula Architects. Since his first visit to camp Barry was hooked by the camp’s mission, passion and leadership of the staff, the board’s leadership and vision, and most importantly, seeing and hearing how camp has made a difference in so many lives of children with disabilities and their families.
Barry was motivated to join the camp board of trustees by a piece of advice given by a mentor – if you want to make a difference in your community, do it as close to home as possible. Barry now states that this is one of the best decisions that he’s ever made, “The interactions with the camp staff, board members, and the campers and their families have been life changing.”
