2016 Akron Rotary Ambassador of Service
Posthumously Awarded to Richard Farkas
The Richard Farkas family is honored to have the Rotary Club of Akron remember Richard’s commitment to community service by selecting him as the 2016 Akron Rotary Ambassador of Service.
Upon retiring as Commander of the nation’s largest Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) wing, Richard began a 20-year second career in financial services, holding senior level executive positions with firms that included chief operating officer and executive vice president. Leveraging years of professional leadership expertise, Richard later formed Farkas Group, LLC to assist clients in Ohio and Florida increase business performance.
Richard was an active community leader, assuming numerous leadership positions that included serving as past president of two Rotary Clubs, Rotary District Trainer, and most recently he was chosen to serve as Rotary District 6630’s Governor for 2016. Richard enjoyed assisting his church, with strategic planning and volunteering for his Alma Mater, the University of Florida. He was a member and past president of the Commerce Club of Akron, the Military Officers Association of America, the Association of Air Force Missileers, the National War College Alumni Association, the University of Florida Alumni Association and the Rotary Club of Akron.
Richard was always grateful for the outstanding professionals he was surrounded by for so many years. Whether they were mentors, models of leadership, or individuals whose life experiences had shaped them uniquely, these professionals contributed to his growth and perspective on life and service.
Richard’s legacy of service continues today as his vision and leadership carries forward in the planning efforts for Rotary’s 100th Anniversary celebration in October, 2016.
